Hand Cream
1 1/2 cup or 12 oz. glycerin
1/2-ounce cocoa butter or 1/2 cake
1/2 teaspoon boric acid
1 cup stearic acid
1 tablespoon 30% ammonia
2 cups water, boiling
Put glycerin, stearic acid, cut up
cocoa butter in stainless steel pan. (Double boiler might be best)
heat over low heat until cocoa butter melts (do not boil) Remove, add
ammonia. Stir until creamy. Dissolve boric acid in 2 cups
boiling water. Slowly add glycerin mixture to water. Beat
continually for 10 min. using electric mixer on medium speed. While
beating add a very, very small amount of lip stick to give it
color. Add 1 1/2 oz perfume for smell. Let stand
overnight. Stir down well put in jars. Yields 5 small
margarine tubs.
Play Dough
2 cups water
1/2 cup salt
2 tablespoons oil
food coloring
2 1/3 cups flour
2 tablespoons alum
Boil water, salt, oil, and food
coloring together. In a mixing boil put in flour and
alum. Pour boiling mixture over all and mix very well.
Salt Clay
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon alum
2 cups water
food coloring
Combine all ingredients except
food coloring in a saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until
mixture thickens into dough mass. Remove and cool. Kneed
like bread on waxed paper. Coloring can be kneaded in. Can
be stored several days in air tight container. Re-knead before
using.
Shower Mold Inhibitor
½ cup hydrogen peroxide
½ cup rubbing alcohol
¼ tsp (6 to 8 drops) dish
detergent (anything labeled “grease cutting” works best. Dawn is a good one.)
2 tsp Jet Dry or other “spot free”
dishwasher rinse.
1 ½ cups of water
Window Cleaner
1 pint rubbing alcohol
1 tablespoon sudsy ammonia
1 tablespoon dishwashing liquid
1 gallon water
Mix all together. May
be used in a bucket for big jobs or put in a spray bottle for mirrors and windows.
